NEWLY ORDAINED PRIESTS

On Sunday 24 July 2016 the Diocese of Clogher celebrated the ordination of two new priests for the diocese by Bishop Liam MacDaid. Fr Stephen Duffy and Fr Kevin Malcolmson were raised to the priesthood in a liturgy celebrated in St Macartan’s Cathedral, Monaghan.

 

Fr Stephen Duffy is from Ballybay in the parish of Tullycorbet. His parents are Talbot and Breda Duffy. He has two brothers, Fearghal and TJ, and two sisters, Sinead and Mary Agnes. Fr Stephen was educated at at St Patrick’s Boys School, Ballybay, Ballybay Community College and at the DKIT, Dundalk. He worked in the food industry for ten years in various management positions before commencing his formation in 2010 at the Pontifical Irish College in Rome. He studied Philosophy and Theology at the Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas (the Angelicum) and pursued post-graduate studies in Pastoral Theology.

 

Fr Kevin Malcolmson is from Swan’s Cross in Aghabog (Parish of Killeevan-Currin-Aghabog). His parents are Tony and Mary Malcolmson and he has one brother, Paul. Fr Kevin was educated at Latnamrd National School, St Macartan’s College, Monaghan and then entered the seminary at St Patrick’s College, Maynooth. He also studied at the NUIM where he obtained a BA in Nua Gaelige and Philosophy. He then decided to take some time away from seminary formation during which he worked in adult education and, later, with Fr Peter McVerry SJ ministering to the marginalised in the greater Dublin area. Fr Kevin returned to the seminary in 2012 and completed his theological studies in the Pontifical University of St Patrick’s, Maynooth. He has also pursued post-graduate studies in Pastoral Theology.
